Paul J Morehead comes from a family of artists and illustrators. His Grandmother Ruth J Morehead is a famous and highly published illustrator.

Paul has created a vast collection of his own paintings and drawings of the animal kingdom, from insects, birds, reptiles, fish and mammals.

His purpose in doing so is to capture the essence of their Animal Intelligence (AI), to share the beauty of nature and also to explore their characteristics and what we may learn about each animal and their relation to us as humans.

Paul has studied extensively Vedic Astrology, Western Astrology, Jytotish, and also the developed knowledge of Gene Keys and Dream Arc theories. Gene Keys aim to awaken the heart and mind by developing a personal chart that links us to animal intelligence in our own unique and individual way. Dream Arc theory incorporates indigenous teachings, practices and wisdom deeply connected to the animal world.

The Animal Intelligence Art Exhibit may be enjoyed on multiple levels — the beauty of animals and the way in which Paul Morehead has captured their essence and in addition multiple levels of personal experience, discovering your Spirit Animals and how they may help you in your life journey.

The Exhibit features original colored pencil & watercolor illustrations based on the Dream Arc system. Each illustration highlights the animals' archetypal wisdom, focused on bringing to light their unique guidance for us to experience more connection, compassion and collaboration. The Exhibit invites you to explore the relationship between the human & animal experience.

Animal Intelligence Series
My artistic journey is about exploring our inner intelligence, and articulating it authentically. My mission is to create space for this intelligence to emerge and connect the viewer with their own wellspring of inner wisdom.

Why Animals?
The Animal Intelligence series portrays creatures connected to the Dream Arc, a “buzzing hive of creativity and self-discovery, collective transformation and connection through the animal guides.” In showcasing the light and intelligence that resides within these beings, my hope is that we can recognize & celebrate them as part of our shared earth family—deeply connected with the eternal currents of nature.
Every animal in this series carries a teaching: a Shadow, Gift, or Siddhi reminding us how to reflect, respond and return to our own healing, growth, and the universal light within our hearts. By connecting with these beings, we rediscover wonder, innocence, and resonate with a more simple, pure expression of life.

Art as Connection
Choosing natural media (watercolor and colored pencil) that honors the organic, tactile quality of nature, I can listen more deeply to the subtle energy of each animal and create works that invite viewers into an intimate dialogue with their teachings.
My hope is to inspire a moment of reflection and recognition: seeing yourself in the animal and being seen in return, without judgment—just, raw presence…

A Universal Message
Art transcends age, culture, and background, just as animal guidance is universal. My goal is to make these messages accessible to all, honoring the beauty of nature in all its forms and reminding us of our place within its intricate harmony.
Thank you for experiencing this journey with me.

About the Branch

Opening as the Palos Verdes Public Library & Art Gallery on June 3, 1930, the Mediterranean Revival architectural style building was designed by Architect Myron Hunt, a local resident. The five-level, 16,550-square-foot building is constructed of hollow-cast double-walled reinforced concrete covered by stucco with a red mission tile roof. The surrounding landscape was designed by well-known landscape architect, Frederick Olmsted, Jr in 1930.

In 1962, an addition was completed on the south side of the building, and in 1997 the stone patio on the east side of the building was remodeled to provide improved handicapped access. Library furnishings include reproductions of original hand-carved walnut Italian Renaissance tables, chairs, and couches from the collection of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vanderlip. The Library completed a DOLLAR renovation of the interior restoring it to its original.

The library has been designated as a Historic Landmark and it is listed on the California Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places.
